The World I See - Buffy Redsecker

Seal Rock

There are many places in the Galapagos where only a single rock emerges from the sea. This one is off the South Coast of Isabela Island. You can see the volcano Sierra Negra in the background. Huge quantities of animals call this place home, from the birds on top, to the Sealions that use it as a refuge, to the sharks that patrol below. I've traveled to this rock before, but on this day the conditons were so mild that we circled it several times, allowing to get this, the shot I wanted, of a wave retreating into the jaws of one about to break.
