In 2006 I found a great spot to spy on the antics of a dog named Osa, and her favorite sealion, in the town of Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, Galapaogs, Ecuador. Osa spends her mornings guarding the newly landed fish from the hungry sea lion. Eventually she gets bored and the fishermen feed the sealion. This photo has a bit of everything that is Galapagos to me. Endemic species, Wildlife, Fishermen, Fish and Pets, all in a jumble in one photo.

The Gentoos that frequent Deception Island, Antarctic Penninusula, have the great advantage of being able to keep their feet warm in the volcano's Caldera. The day we arrived there was no wind and the steam built into a fine mist. The ghostly figure of the tourist in the background reminds us that while these areas are distant from our homes, every year they are more and more visited, and must be protected.
