Iguana Thaw

At Tortuga Bay, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, Ecuador, this endemic marine iguana warms himself in the early morning sunshine on the sand. The beach, popular with locals, and tourists alike, is a muli-mile hike from town, and many people arrive early in the day to beat the heat. This beach is one of many sites in Galapagos that bring the endemic species into direct contact w/humans. This beach is controlled by the Galapagos National Park Service, and is closed from 6pm to 7am. There is a sign in sheet at the entrance to the trail that ensures that the park rangers keep an accurate count of the guests.
